We Might have a spending addiction..

January 4th, 2006 at 10:09 am

Actually, I don't know which addiction is stronger: spending or going! My kids are having fits trying to get me to go to the grocery store(so they can go with me, naturally). Since I did all my shopping over the weekend, I really don't need to go. I didn't go yesterday either. I'm enjoying the freedom myself;but they can't stand it
;0)

A funny sidenote: Give a kid a veggie peeler and watch them go nuts. Talk about empowerment! My youngest three were each dying to help me peel the three carrots I added to the roasting hens I was baking(three in the 18qt. roaster) So they took turns and my three carrots went into the roaster and they each wound up with a good snack that I didn't have to prepare or urge them to eat!

A Whole New Year

Hubby and I went shopping yesterday. We took one of our dds along because she needed shoes. We shopped at Walmart, Alid's and our local grocery store. I still didn't get everything on my list, but I think we kept frivilous extras down pretty well. I kept all receipts so I can keep track of prices and spending habits.

Gotta Start Somewhere

I've started taking notes at my local grocery store of prices on certain items I know I'll buy often. I was pleasantly suprised to find 6 lb. cans of tomato sauce and diced tomatoes; even Sam's didn't have them last time I looked. Now I am totally without excuses to avoid making my gigantic batch of pasta sauce.
I've also started an inventory of pantry items. Since there's stuff scattered all around the kitchen and down into the basement storage room, this could take awhile! But, I'm borrowing the 15-minute idea from The FlyLady, and doing a little at a time. I also want to run out to the van and find the grocery receipt I tossed on dash. I want to keep every one for the next couple of weeks to track spending habits. That way I can show the kids why they don't need to tag along everytime I go to the store!
